West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rapheal Davis scored a team-high 19 points as Purdue shut down No. 22 Indiana 83-67 in a battle of Hoosier State rivals on Wednesday. A sold out Mackey Arena watched their Boilermakers roll to a second straight win over a ranked opponent after knocking off No. 25 Iowa on Saturday. Purdue (13-8, 5-3 Big Ten) held Indiana to a season-low point total thanks to the inside presence of A.J. Hammons, who finished with eight blocks to go along with 11 points. Bryson Scott and Basil Smotherman contributed 11 and eight points, respectively, off the bench for the victors. Yogi Ferrell carried Indiana with 21 points while leading scorer James Blackmon Jr. was limited to 13 on 4-of-13 shooting. The Hoosiers have dropped two in a row on the heels of a four-game winning streak. They dug themselves a big hole Wednesday by shooting just 32.1 percent in the first half. They were particularly off the mark from 3-point range, where they made just 1-for-9 after combining for 27 3-pointers the previous two games. Purdue took advantage of IUs cold start and reeled off 10 straight points in the early stages to take a 17-6 lead. It was a 15-point spread, 30-15, before the Hoosiers finally began making some shots. They were within eight late in the half, but Scotts bucket beat the buzzer to give the Boilermakers a 38-27 cushion at halftime. The second half started out much like the first. The first eight points were scored by Purdue, with Dakota Mathias basket prompting an IU timeout with the visitors trailing by 19 less than three minutes in. Again the lead was trimmed to a manageable 10 before another 8-0 Purdue run essentially put the game away. Smothermans layup off a steal made it a 62-44 game, and the margin was at least 14 over the final eight minutes. Game Notes Purdue leads the all-time series 114-88 ...
